All my outreach experiences have helped me develop a desire to use science to better the lives of others and to educate as many people as possible so that way they are capable of making their own, well-informed, decisions. These experiences have been geared for children under 18, and I enjoyed this because those years are fundamental and crafting who someone will be as they get older. Outreach enables me to improve how I discuss the work that myself and other scientists in my field are doing while observing how others learn and take in the information I am providing.
Leadership

A photo with me and a cutout of Steve Irwin, given to me when I became President of the Exotic Animal Torch; it is our equivalent of passing on a physical torch.

Being the Vice President allowed me to work closely with our president in organizing and managing events and meetings, along with creating an inclusive environment for new members.
-
-
President, Secretary, Social Director, Exotic Animal Club, University of Florida

-
-

-
Fall 2022 - Spring 2023
Spring 2018 - Spring 2021
Summer 2018 - Spring 2019
Holding several different types of leadership positions has allowed me to fully understand how each position works with the other positions in a committee/advisory/managing board. These experiences, with the outreach, helped me realize that I enjoy working with others. In the case of leadership, it showed me that I enjoyed organizing, managing, and directing others and events and being a mentor to other members of those organizations as well. I learned how to better develop interpersonal relationships, respect and hear the opinions of others, work collaboratively instead of one person doing everything, and to be fair.

The lesson I learned most while receiving these awards is that hard work and dedication pay off, and this helps to keep me motivated. Of these four awards, the only one I did not apply to was the Grad-a-Gator Grant and the People's Choice Award. The application process taught me how to "sell myself" and highlight my greatest achievements, why they are important, and why the review board should care about them and give me their award. In addition, it taught me how to craft applications to what who is awarding the reward is looking for, and to focus on those key words or values they mention they want in an awardee.
